About the Artists

Fawwaz Sukri
Fawwaz uses acrylic and collage for many of his paintings. The element of collages represented in his work depicts chain of events pertinent to the main event occurring in the “big picture” and the connection between collages and the main subject is highlighted as the key to delivering a dramatic touch to the art. Graduated in Fine Arts from Universiti Teknologi Mara in 2011, he has since involved in various art exhibitions and gearing up for his first solo.

Faiz Yunus
Holds a Degree in Fine Art from UiTM Shah Alam, Faiz Yunus has won numerous awards since his involvement in the art scene in 2008. The most notable would be The Grand Prize Winner of Nando’s Peri-fy Your Art Competition (2011) and 2nd Prize Winner in Public Sculpture for ABPH 2013 Sculpture Competition held in Stadium Bukit Jalil.

“Intuition opens the existence of art. From intuition, the self move freely through the operation of expression, materials and equipment, resulting in the formation of free forms (convoluted, knotted, swirl). Ideally the appearance formations involved with my work allow me to create and operate a variety of these elements thus giving me the opening to experience my own unique experience.” – Faiz Yunus

Rushdi Ahmad
Rushdi graduated in Fine Art from UiTM Shah Alam in 2013. Still finding his own way to be largely known in the art scene, he’s betting on cartoon-style figures, often to unlock the memories of childhood past that most of us are forgetting.

Aliff Ahmad
Holds a Diploma in Fine Art from UiTM Sri Iskandar (Perak) and is currently pursuing a degree at the same institution, Aliff’s “Beware” work on wildlife has a zebra-environmental theme; though in visual similar to that of Ahmad Shukri Mohamed’s Golden Gate series, convey a green message about road safety.

The purpose of Galeri Chandan is not to become just another commercial art gallery in the city, but aspires to enhance local art industry. Since its commencement, Galeri Chandan has pioneered a number of ‘ecosystem’ projects; which aims to improve and develop the infrastructure of art industry in Malaysia. Among the lists is a joint venture project of “Malaysian Emerging Artist Award” which held every two years; serves as a platform to cultivate young and new talents while “Kembara Jiwa” or “The Traveling Soul” intends to introduce Malaysian arts to the world.

In its fifth year of operation, Galeri Chandan has embarked upon another level with its own residency program for artists from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore; giving them the opportunity to collaborate. Based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia; it is hoped that the establishment of Nafas Residensi will open more doors for dialogues and exchange of ideas within arts community in Southeast Asia.
